Violette de Mazia Foundation
Our classes are based on an experiential learning model. Experiential learning requires qualities such as self-initiative and self-evaluation. For experiential learning to be truly effective, you will employ goal setting, experimenting, observing, reviewing, and finally looking and seeing with a new perspective. This complete process allows one to learn new skills, new attitudes, and even entirely new ways of thinking. In order to gain genuine knowledge from an experience, certain abilities are required:
.
You will be engaged in an ongoing dialogue with the aesthetic and analytical theories presented in class, as well as with your group and the instructor. In order to get the most from this approach, you are expected to attend all class meetings. As there are no grades or tests in this educational approach, your commitment to the process is what is required for participation.
Students who are absent for two or more classes will miss key concepts in the learning process and the disparity of understanding will interfere with the group learning process. To preserve the continuity of the group environment, and to allow the group as a whole to grow together, students who are absent for more than two classes will be dismissed from the course. Please be aware of the commitment required for this program in advance. In case of an emergency, please inform the office that you will be unable to attend the class. We can be reached by phone at 610-971-9960 or via e-mail at LFishel@demazia.org. Special exceptions will be considered on an individual basis.
Classes may be cancelled due to severe weather. We will abide by the decision of the school district in the area of the class venue. Many of our locations partner with KYW to give notice to their students of closings. Listen to KYW 1060AM, check their website at www.kyw1060.com or call 900-737-1060 (96c per call) for information on course cancellations. In the event that we cancel a class due to weather, a make-up class will be scheduled if at all possible and is generally added onto the end of the class schedule.
