Violette de Mazia Foundation
Assistant Director of Education William Perthes has recently returned from a trip to England where he presented a paper on the close friendship and intellectual collaboration between Albert Barnes and John Dewey.
The paper, John Dewey and Albert C. Barnes: Art, Aesthetics, and Democracy in Early Twentieth Century America, was presented to the annual conference of the Historians of the Twentieth Century United States at Saint Anne’s College, Oxford University and it explored their shared interest in democratic values and the roots of the objective method of art analysis.
Given as part of the session “Art and Education Policies during the Early 20th Century,” the presentation was well attended and the paper prompted a lively discussion regarding art, the nature and means of education – including the educational outreach efforts of the Violette de Mazia Foundation.
The conference, which attracted attendees and presenters from more than a dozen countries, was a further opportunity for the Violette de Mazia Foundation to spread the word of the important work we do.

Congratulations, Bill!
