Registration for Spring 2015 Courses Now Open

Register Today for Exciting Spring 2015 Courses!

We are pleased to announce that registration for our spring 2015 courses is now open.  We have several new and exciting courses, as well as opportunities for you to take courses that we have offered in the past that you may have missed.

Our core programming at the Barnes Foundation begins on January 27th, 2015 with two classes that are open to anyone interested in learning a new way to see and appreciate art.  Having the galleries of the Barnes Foundation as your classroom is an experience you won't soon forget! Get up close and personal with these works of art in our three-part course series. Beginning with Part I: Informed Perception, our courses introduce students to the concepts and application of the objective method of art analysis through direct engagement with the arts.  In our Seminar: The Dawn of Modernism, students will explore artwork of the early modern period represented in the collection of the Barnes Foundation as well as works from artists and traditions that either influenced the rise of modernism or arose in its wake.

Our spring special topic courses will focus on the dawn of spring, sunny weather and the return to the garden as we present two very special new courses.  The Artist’s Garden is a special three class program held at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and coincides with their exhibition of the same name. The first two sessions will meet in the exhibition and the final session will be a visit to Chanticleer Garden, Wayne, PA.  The second, The Art of the Garden  will include an exploration of the Michener Art Museum exhibition, The Artist in the Garden, as well as a visit to Hortulus Farm Garden & Nursery  to discover the secrets behind its creation.  This class will also meet for three sessions: two gallery sessions and one visit to Hortulus Farm Garden & Nursery, Newtown, PA.  Another new program we are presenting will offer you the opportunity to explore cubism in Appreciating Cubism Objectively at Hershey's Mill in West Chester.

We are also offering some wonderful gallery talks and walking tours this spring. Our Director of Education, William Perthes, will present a Gallery Lecture at the Michener Art Museum exploring the art of Auguste Rodin - Auguste Rodin: Dynamic Form.  Our popular walking tours are also back with The Art in Sculpture - Center City, The Art in Architecture - Laurel Hill Cemetery, The Art in Architecture - Old City Philadelphia, The Fountains of Philadelphia - The Parkway.

Spaces are limited for all classes and tours.  Click on the links below for more information and to register or call 610-971-9960.
